AEM stresses infrastructure investment to senators

Lafarge receives international habitat conservation awards
Nine of Lafarge North America’s aggregate sites in the western United States gained international recognition from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for their contributions to wildlife habitat conservation, the company announced. The aggregate sites recognized are located across Colorado – in Golden, Rifle, Fort Lupton, Lafayette and two in Longmont. In Arizona, the site is in Sun City, and in Wisconsin and Missouri the aggregate sites are found in Colgate and Defiance. Each aggregate mine/pit received its award in acknowledgment of its commitment to environmental stewardship and to increasing native biodiversity.

Fisher Sand & Gravel receives safety awards
Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., based in Dickinson, N.D., with operations throughout the western United States, was recognized by MSHA, Rocky Mountain District, with three awards for outstanding safety achievements in 2008. The awards are for man-hours worked without any lost-time accidents, as well as for being citation free during two mandatory inspections. More

CalCIMA requests safety talks for Spring Thaw
The California Construction & Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) is accepting safety and health talks on surface mining and related topics for the 2010 Spring Thaw, scheduled for March 17 in Sacramento, Calif. The Spring Thaw is an annual safety and health seminar for surface mining and related industries, such as concrete and asphalt plants. More

Terex sells generator line to Cummins
The Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) segment of Terex Corp. announced the sale of its Terex Generator product line to Cummins Power Generation for undisclosed sums. The divestment is part of a Terex AWP strategy to focus on its core aerial equipment business. Warranty support for Cummins-branded units will begin immediately. Warranty support for Terex-branded units will continue until the end of 2010. Parts support will be supplied by Terex AWP for 180 days from the date of sale, at which point Cummins will assume parts support ownership.

Caterpillar will display close to 60 products at bauma
Caterpillar and its German dealer Zeppelin will exhibit the latest products and solutions at bauma 2010 under the theme “Your Success. Our Commitment.” The stand, located in the hall B6 and the adjoining outside area, will cover a total of 10,700 sq. meters. Close to 60 Cat machines will be on display covering products from the 301.6C mini hydraulic excavator to the 993K large quarry truck. Bauma will be held April 19-25 in Munich, Germany. More

McLanahan Corp., which offers aggregate processing equipment, launched a redesigned web site last month at www.mclanahan.com. Polydeck Screen Corp., a provider of modular polyurethane, rubber and specialty screening solutions, also revamped its web site, www.polydeckscreen.com. And CEAttachments says its new web site (www.ceattachments.com) has more information on the latest attachments that is easier to find.

Drill adds volume, psi
The DCR 20 Series down-the-hole drill from FRD Furukawa’s Rock Drill Division features a high-output compressor for added volume and increased psi, resulting in higher overall productivity. The carousel rod changer accommodates various drill pipe sizes and allows operators to add and remove rods using a single lever. Featuring a low-emission, Tier- III Caterpillar engine, the DCR 20 is capable of drilling holes from 3.5 in. to 6 in. In addition, the drill’s ergonomic cab design, air conditioning and filtered air pressure maximize operator comfort.
