Buckeye Earns Its Battle Stripes

BY MARY JO WAGNER  mj_wagner@shaw.ca

Given their typically uncomfortable surroundings and physically and mentally demanding workdays — particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan, where the threat of danger is palpable — there’s a good chance that “comfort” is not in the soldiers’ lexicon.

Indeed, for many of the combat teams, the lack of a clear picture of what’s on the ground around them (or below them) as they constantly move into new territories makes it difficult for them to quickly orient themselves, mobilize teams and equipment, and execute missions. Situational awareness and the ability to improve it have become a key focus in this sophisticated game of cat and mouse, and the United States is pushing hard to be the bigger cat.   read more»

Pictometry and Intergraph form Marketing Alliance
Pictometry International and Intergraph Corporation have formed a marketing alliance that will facilitate integration of Pictometry's aerial imaging and measuring technology with Intergraph's emergency incident management solution at 9-1-1- call centers.
Intergraph's emergency incident management solution provides an interactive, real-time map display of caller locations for 9-1-1 centers. Pictometry's software allows users to access as many as 12 oblique views of any property, building, highway, or other feature. The software also helps users obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the oblique imagery.
Combination of the companies’ products will allow 9-1-1 dispatchers to gain a better understanding of situations in progress and enable them to provide additional data to first responders en route. Most recently, Intergraph and Pictometry integrated their products into the 9-1-1 communications center serving Howard County, Maryland, where dispatchers used the technology to guide police officers to a burglary scene where a suspect was apprehended.
