Event boasts record number of RFPs generating significant Caribbean business
NEW YORK, NY - September 30, 2011. Caribbean Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange (CMITE), part of Questex Hospitality + Travel's Global Meetings & Incentive Travel Exchanges, reported a record number of RFPs delivered during the second annual event. Conducted from September 15-18 at Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall in Jamaica, CMITE saw three days of networking and relationship building and solid business for the Caribbean MICE market.
“CMITE, now in its second year, has once again proven to be one of the most valued events for generating MICE business,” noted Marcia Bullock-Jobson, regional director, groups and conventions for the Jamaica Tourist Board. “Many of the buyers attending the event had definite interest and business for Jamaica and our participating suppliers have all reported receiving multiple RFPs. We look forward to hosting CMITE again next year.”
CMITE is the premier appointment-based format in the Caribbean that focuses on bringing top-producing, qualified MICE buyers together with hand-selected suppliers. Organizers received rave reviews on the 2011 event. “Building on the success of our inaugural event, we received increased interest selling out the event for the 2nd year,” remarked Jennifer Fernandez, show and event director, Questex Travel Group. “In keeping with our commitment to deliver an unmatched experience for all participants, we are pleased to hear that the event is the preferred format for those looking for focused and productive business meetings operating at a higher level than seen at larger scale events. We are confident that CMITE is an important calendar event delivering solid business to the islands of the Caribbean.”
Allison Summers, Site managing director, stated, "The model that the Global Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchanges provide brings in qualified buyers to experience this distinct region first-hand and discuss immediate business opportunities is a winning combination for all. Site is pleased our Caribbean partners can continue to participate in and capitalize on this well-structured event."
CMITE drew meeting and incentive buyers from across the United States and Canada who had a vested interest in booking the Caribbean for their meeting and incentive programs. “I have conducted more business on the first day alone than I would have in a month of random calls from suppliers to my office. Even though I had some appointments with vendors that I thought I knew everything about, the focused conversations that take place because of the format have led me to opportunities that I did not know existed," shared Mike Farmer, vice president of group travel business development, Meridian Enterprises. “The appointment scheduling website makes it easy to hook-up with suppliers, and the social events truly lend themselves to encourage conversations with suppliers I didn't have appointments with. Add to that the great pre-planning, communications and execution on the part of the Questex team and it is still by far the undisputed champion of B-to-B events!” Learn how other buyers benefited.
Suppliers received an overwhelming number of RFPs onsite.
“Where else can you go to have qualified appointments where the buyer and supplier can develop networking opportunities, and important business relationships throughout four days,” said Sharon Naehring, director of sales, Westin St. Maarten. “The place to go is CMITE where business is handed to you. Thank you CMITE for increasing my group business for 2012-2013 with the many RFPs that I gathered during the show!” Caribbean suppliers represented various MICE categories including: hotels and resorts, spas, destinations, tour operators, destination management companies, and cruise lines.
